Webster Technique

As your due date gets closer, you would want to hear if your baby is in position or not! Mothers with a history of breech baby or new mothers with concerns regarding baby’s movement restrictions, this can help you! Restrictions in babies’ movements inside the mother’s uterus can create complications for both the mother and the baby. It may cause aches and pain, further creating difficulties. Whenever a situation like baby breeching or feet-first presentation comes, doctors try to turn the baby’s headfirst in the weeks before birth or perform cesarean delivery, also called C-section. However, a webster technique can help women address such concerns and turn their situation around.

Webster Technique is a specific form of chiropractic care during pregnancy. It focuses on the pelvis and sacrum, the muscles, and ligaments in and around these areas. Overall, the practitioners take on pregnant clients to help them with anything from nausea to sleep. The idea is to deal with misalignments to make more space that would eventually help deliver the baby.

Benefits of Webster Technique

Pregnancy is a tough road with morning sickness, vomiting, tiredness, mood swings, size changes, etc. It is not easy to be pregnant with body changes and other responsibilities. It is a less invasive technique and may help you if you have

  • Breech baby
  • A history of breech babies
  • Other concerns with your sacrum or pelvis during pregnancy.

How Webster Technique Works?

During the visit, the chiropractor may not attempt to turn your baby; instead, the adjustment is about creating space for the baby so that baby can freely move into an optimal position on their own. It will decrease stress on the baby’s spine and help the baby to rotate freely during the delivery process. After the adjustment, you need to hydrate well.

Whereas for any other misalignments in pregnant women, chiropractors can ask you to lie face down with a pillow with a cutout in the center, so your body is supported and has room for the baby. Sometimes even a drop-down table is used. Both feet are looked at and then bent over to the buttocks to determine any misalignments during the assessment. If there is an imbalance, your pelvis is out of alignment. Then the adjustments are made accordingly.
